Child and Youth Care

Course Overview

 

The Child and Youth Care Program in Ontario is a post-secondary program designed to prepare students for a career in helping children and youth who are facing social, emotional, and behavioral issues. The program curriculum covers a wide range of topics such as child development, psychology, counseling, crisis management, and behavior management.

Students in the program also gain practical experience through mandatory work placements in various settings, such as schools, residential treatment facilities, and community centers. These placements provide students with hands-on experience working with young people and allow them to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations.

Admission Requirements

  • Wonderlic SLE Score of 18 

If English is not a student’s first language, they must provide proof of English competency. 

English Language Proficiency Requirements: 

  • IELTS – Minimum score of 6.0 with no subject test score lower than 5.5 or 
  • TOEFL – Internet-based test (IBT) – Overall 80 with the minimum in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20 or 
  • CAEL: Overall, 60 No section below 60
